Assassination Classroom

Yusei Matsui is the author and illustrator of the Japanese science fiction comedy manga series Assassination Classroom. The series follows the daily life of an extremely powerful octopus-like being who works as a junior high homeroom teacher, and his students who are dedicated to assassinating him in order to save Earth from destruction. The students are labelled “misfits” at their school and are taught in a separate building; the class he teaches is known as 3-E. From July 2012 to March 2016, it was serialised in Shueisha’s Weekly Shnen Jump magazine, with chapters collected in twenty-one tankobon volumes.

Assassination Classroom Anime Synopsis

When a mysterious creature reduces the moon to a permanent crescent, the students of Kunugigaoka Middle School’s class 3-E are faced with a monumental task: assassinate the creature responsible for the disaster before Earth suffers a similar fate. The monster, dubbed Koro-sensei (the indestructible teacher), can, however, fly at speeds of up to Mach 20, which he freely demonstrates, leaving any attempt to subdue him in his extraterrestrial dust. Furthermore, the misfits of 3-E quickly discover that the strange, tentacled beast is more than just invincible; he is also the best teacher they have ever had!

Assassination Classroom Anime Characters

Main characters

Koro-sensei

Koro-sensei is the series’ main protagonist and anti-hero. He is a powerful octopus-like lifeform being who serves as the homeroom teacher for Kunugigaoka Junior High School’s Class 3-E. He is initially thought to be the perpetrator of the Moon’s explosion, which has permanently transformed it into a crescent shape; however, this is later revealed to be false, as the true culprit was a mouse implanted with his cells and sent to the moon as part of an experiment. Despite having no intention of being killed, he offered governments all over the world the opportunity to kill him in exchange for allowing him to be the homeroom teacher of Class 3-E until the end of the year, when he will destroy the Earth by self-explosion unless he is killed. Despite knowing full well that he is their target, he is dedicated to his task as a teacher and imparting his knowledge of assassination to the students. Despite knowing that he will destroy the planet in a year, he is able to connect with each student individually, which is why all of his students respect him. He takes the shape of an octopus with eight tentacles, and the colour of his skin changes depending on his mood. He can travel at a maximum speed of Mach 20 (15345.383 miles per hour), allowing him to travel the world in a short amount of time and making him a difficult target to hit. He is also extremely intelligent, to the point where he could teach almost any subject to all of his students on his own. He does, however, have some weaknesses, primarily to special rubber knives and BB pellets designed to work against his body.

While initially thought to be an alien, he later reveals that he was once a legendary human assassin known as the Reaper. He was captured and sent to a facility after being betrayed by his apprentice (the Reaper seen throughout the series), where a series of experiments were performed on him and transformed his body, causing him to mutate into a new form. Koro-sensei was born in the slums of an unknown third-world country, where he quickly discovered he possessed a natural talent for killing as well as an innate lack of empathy. He became an assassin, murdering anyone for the right price, including world leaders and military leaders. However, after being kidnapped and used as a guinea pig, he begins to learn compassion and empathy from a female intern with whom he develops a close relationship. His decision to become a teacher is based on his promise to the intern who thought he was qualified, later revealed to be Class 3-E’s former teacher, Aguri Yukimura, who was chosen to be his observer during the experiments. According to Koro-sensei, his life will be cut short by the end of the school year in March, and if he is not killed by then, the entire planet will perish as a result of the explosive release of anti-matter in his body caused by the experiments.

Nagisa Shiota

Nagisa Shiota is a student in Class 3-E, the main student protagonist, and the narrator of the series. Nagisa is regarded as one of the class’s weakest students due to his small stature and mediocre physical abilities, which are comparable to those of some of the girls in the class. However, he is the student with the greatest potential to become an assassin, as acknowledged by Koro-sensei and Karasuma. He can draw closer while concealing his bloodlust in order to launch a surprise attack, and his bloodlust alone can cause his opponents to falter. Nagisa usually notes Koro-flaws, sensei’s which appear minor at first (since they do not look like major weaknesses). Some of them, however, are eventually revealed to be useful, as the students are almost able to kill Koro-sensei due to one of these flaws. Outwardly friendly and polite to his friends and everyone, he conceals a slightly darker side of himself as an assassin that is not visible in everyday life and is only revealed during training and assassination time. When in battle, Nagisa transforms into a brutal assassin who would risk his life to kill his target. According to Karasuma, when Nagisa unleashes his killing intent, he is not training and instead goes for the kill.

Nagisa lives at home with his chronically absent father and abusive mother. His mother tries to live vicariously through him by making him follow her exact life plan for him, because she has had a lot of failure in her life and was never allowed to look like a “pretty girl” by her parents. As a result, she constantly tells him she wishes he had been born a girl and forces him to grow his hair long, which she only lets him tie up because if she unties it, he still looks like a girl. His mother is also the foundation for his assassination abilities, because whenever he tries to defy her during what he perceives to be a “gloomy” moment, she grabs and screams at him, so he learned to tell the difference between her “cheerful” and “gloomy” moments in order to avoid some of her abuse.

Kaede Kayano / Akari Yukimura

Nagisa’s classmate and close friend Kaede Kayano / Akari Yukimura is the one who is most often seen with him. She has an obvious fondness for pudding, once attempting to assassinate Koro-sensei with a massive pudding containing explosives. She has a slight inferiority complex when it comes to sex appeal, particularly her bust size, as she is easily irritated by girls with large breasts. Kaede is the shortest student in Class 3-E, shorter even than Nagisa and Manami. She is also the student who comes up with the name Koro-sensei.

At the start of winter, she reveals her true identity as professional method actress Akari Yukimura, the younger sister of former Class 3-E teacher Aguri Yukimura. She stole and implanted tentacles from Shiro’s facility onto the back of her neck and changed her identity in order to infiltrate Class 3-E, using her acting skills to hide her extensive blood lust from everyone until she was ready to make her move. Using her tentacles in battle, however, puts her life in danger, as it did with Itona, and before she dies, Koro-sensei manages to remove them from her body after Nagisa calms her down with a French kiss, shocking her to the point of passing out. It is also revealed that her time with Koro-sensei and Class 3-E caused her desire for vengeance to wane over time and led her to believe that there was more to Koro-past sensei’s than she had previously assumed. She then spends the winter break recuperating in a hospital, and upon her return, she decides to conceal her newfound feelings for Nagisa in order to avoid causing him problems during their mission to assassinate Koro-sensei. During Koro-battle sensei’s with Yanagisawa and the second God of Death, Kayano attempts to intervene, using the kinetic vision she obtained while implanting the tentacles in her body, but is mortally wounded by the enemy, and in order to save her life, Koro-sensei performs an intricate surgery to restore her body up to the cellular level, a procedure he developed to ensure that the tragedy that happened with her sister would not be repeated. She resumes her acting career after Koro-death, sensei’s becoming even more famous than before. When Sumire Hara asks Kayano how things are between her and Nagisa, she shyly replies that he is currently focused on his career.

Karma Akabane

Karma Akabane is one of Nagisa’s closest friends and is regarded as the most powerful and intelligent of the Class 3-E students. During their first meeting, he is the first to inflict injuries on Koro-sensei. His class’ homeroom teacher had suspended him from school prior to Koro-arrival sensei’s due to his extremely violent behaviour. Unlike the majority of the students in the class who were relegated there due to poor grades, Karma is one of the school’s most gifted students, as he is the only one who can match Gakush in terms of test results and grades, but he developed a rebellious attitude due to his previous teacher’s betrayal after he severely wounded a top third-year student while saving a bullied student from Class 3-E, as despite believing he had done the right thing,

Antagonists

Gakuhō Asano

Gakush Asano’s father and the board chairman of Kunugigaoka Junior High School. He and his son have a tense competitive relationship because he is responsible for Class 3-E’s current state. Gakuh’s teaching abilities appear to be on par with Koro- sensei’s, and he appears to know the latter’s secret. He eventually takes over as the teacher of Class 3-A in order to definitively prove their superiority over Class 3-E. As finals approach, Gakuh becomes increasingly desperate, and eventually employs a teaching method that induces the entire Class 3-A, with the exception of Gakush, into a zombie-like trance that forces them to sacrifice their personal well-being for the sake of studying. Gakushu concludes that his father is insane and must be stopped as a result of these events. Gakuho eventually goes insane after his teaching methods fail to allow Class 3-A to beat Class 3-E and several 3-A students consider transferring to Class 3-E. It was later revealed that, like Koro-sensei, he was a passionate, caring, and talented teacher when he first started the Kunugigaoka Cram School, but he changed his ideal educational system after a tragic incident in which one of his first three students, an aspiring basketball player, committed suicide due to constant bullying. He thought it was because he didn’t teach his students to be strong.

Shiro / Yanagisawa

He first appears as Itona’s guardian and tutor, bestowing the tentacles on his head and providing him with the medication needed to treat them. He is a mysterious scientist who cloaks himself in anti-sensei material. However, after several failed attempts, he abandons Itona, soon becoming interested in Kaede’s potential. When Kaede fails, he reveals himself to be Ktar Yanagisawa, the lead scientist who carried out the experiments that transformed the God of Death into Koro-sensei and destroyed the moon, making him the series’ main antagonist. He was also Aguri’s fianceé, and he was always cruel to her because of her low birth in comparison to his wealthy and well-connected family.

Akira Takaoka

A man who was envious of Karasuma’s abilities and trained alongside him. He is sent to Class 3-E to take over their assassination training, but he is forced to leave after being defeated by Nagisa due to the sadistic nature of his training. He later returns, more insane than ever, and has scarred his own face; after his defeat by Nagisa, he is mocked by his peers. During Class 3-E’s field trip to Okinawa, after poisoning more than half the class and possessing the only cure, he orders Nagisa and Kayano to bring Koro-sensei to him in his hotel room. Instead, Nagisa, Karasuma, and the remaining healthy students infiltrate his hotel and defeat his hired assassins, resulting in a fight on the hotel roof.

The Reaper

The world’s number one assassin, who begins hunting down other assassins and eventually targets Class 3-E and Koro-sensei. He appears to be a harmless florist at first, but his true form is hidden behind killing intent so thick that he appears shrouded in darkness, leaving his true appearance a mystery. In reality, he peeled the skin from his face in order to become a master of disguise, and he has heavily modified his own body in order to become an efficient killer, such as implanting a small calibre gun in his index finger. He eventually persuades Irina to join him and kidnaps Class 3-E in order to draw out Koro-sensei, but is foiled by Taiga and Ssuke’s skill with paint and cameras, before being betrayed by Irina and defeated in a fistfight by Karasuma before being detained and placed under Yanagisawa’s care.

Yes, absolutely Assassination Classroom is way emotional than Naruto.
